Honestly, the fact it's a terrible idea that still went through makes a lot of sense in the context of what the 60's, 70's, and 80's were like in terms of science. I work in the Aerospace industry right now and plenty of times we have to go back and look at old papers and old data and old research and how absolutely cavalier they were about pretty much everything would blow your mind. It's almost a miracle we got as far as we did given how "fly by the seat of our pants" everyone seemed to be at the time. Also, in fairness to Pathfinder, the space shuttle is also a terrible idea that only worked through brute force engineering and even then it had perhaps the worst safety record of any manned spaceflight vehicle NASA put into orbit.

Actually... the MiG-25 wasn't designed to intercept the SR-71, but the B-58 and upcoming B-70 (that ended up cancelled). In that era SAMs weren't quite up to the task, everyone was starting to field Mach 2 planes and looking toward Mach 3, including for bombers. With SAMs getting suddenly more viable, most high-speed, high-altitude programs collapsed.

You are correct about a lot of things but simulating everything as a rigid body would remove a lot of the fun of the game. Tanks wouldnt be able to fly off and break stuff.... and things like that. Despite anything its a space exploration game, and space exploration is riddle with more fails then successes.

For everyone that's noticed the smoke alarm noise in the background, I used to live in a flat. It wasn't my smoke alarm, it was in the corridor outside and only a qualified electrician was allowed to touch it. I didn't realise my microphone had picked it up until the video was already uploaded. If it's really that irritating, try listening to the video with speakers as it may be less noticeable.
